Link to your interview debrief:

1. Two professors were waiting in the meeting room and I was greeted warmly. Professor X took a moment reading my name and left out of a pleasant sigh.
2. Professor X started with casual discussion like "Have you been to Kolkata before?", "Have you been to Victoria Memorial and any idea who built it?"
3. Before I realised, the casual questions slipped into Design Thinking related questions like "Why are the sheets in OT green in color". My SOP was focused on Design and Critical thinking and most of the next questions were in line with this.
4. Professor Y joined in by asking my hobbies - "Do you get time besides your work? What do you do?". This led to my travel through european countries and some casual discussion again on this topic.
5. Interview lasted for 15 mins and ended with my queries related to course.

Did you use the help of an MBA Consultant? : No

Any comments, feelings, advice to share?:
1. Before even applying for MBA, make sure your purpose is right. Do not try to fit-in in closed boxes
2. Be real honest and thorough with each and every word written in your application
3. There is a thin line of difference between being confident and over-confident and you would not want to cross that when talking to Professors.
4. Be as prepared as Virat Kohli for the interview and as intuitive as Dhoni during the interview.

Wish you the best.

Which are the sales channel of Maruti ? Why Nexa was needed ?
What types of car are Maruti selling thru Nexa ?
In value chain of car manufacturing, are Nexa cars & Arena cars different ?

Ok, lets me understood where is the conflict point in south china sea ?

There were 02 professors. The first professor started with "Tell me something about yourself".
Then Why MBA, Why operations as a goal etc. Then he asked me few questions related to Finance such as Present/Time Value of Money, Compund Interest, something related to Balance sheet and P&L statements.
As someone from science background, i was not able to tell much about this part but still i handled it with confidence by clearly stating what i knew and what i didn't.

The second professor started with few current affairs such as Farm Bills 2020, US elections, India Vs US democracy.
Then he asked some Maths Questions - What is the use of Logarithms?
Real-life examples where Mode is a better measure than Mean etc.
Then he asked few questions related to Motorcycling as i have mentioned that as a hobby. "Who wrote Motorcycle Diaries" -(I didn't know.) Who owns Royal Enfiled? etc.

Then they asked me if i have any questions for them?
Overall it was 25 mins long. There were quiet a few questions for which i didn't knew the answer. My piece of Advise : Tell them honestly about what you know and what you don't. Try to remain calm and have faith in yourself.

I got admission from the waitlist at the very last moment, so always be hopeful :).

Hi.

I am planning to apply to One Yr Full Time MBA Course at IIM A/B/C this yr for 2022 Admit.

I am an Engineer and MBA as well from a Tier 2/3 B-School.
Total Work-Ex of around 11 Years. (3 Years post B-Tech & 8 Years in Administration post MBA)
Age - 35

If I target a GMAT Score of 700+, DO I stand any chance for IIM A/B/C?

Since this will be 2nd MBA that I will be targeting, is it a sort of big disadvantage?

Hello Azim8596,

Thank you for sharing. Military experience can definitely help your application. The leadership experience that you have is very hard to get in the corporate world and adcoms often appreciate that.

As far as your GMAT, aiming closer to a 700 will help enhance your candidacy. That said, while test scores are important, they are only part of the equation. A lot also depends upon whether you craft a strong personal story. Personal MBA Coach has helped many other applicants from the military translate their experiences into essays and would be happy to provide you with guidance.

If you think you could benefit from professional help on your essays and other application components, do not hesitate to take a look at our comprehensive packages and reach out to scott@personalmbacoach.com to learn more.

Hi Azim,

You got a really diverse and interesting profile with leadership experience. Your profile also highlights your ability to bounce back from difficult situations.

Now coming to your question, with your present GMAT score you can get admitted into any of the Indian Business schools that you have mentioned considering your extraordinary unique profile.

For certain top colleges like IIM A/B/C & ISB, you will need to bring out your diverse and real-life leadership experiences in your profile and application essays etc. If you prepare really good essays and perform well in the interview, then your present score is good enough to get into elite B schools.

However, if you are uncertain about your performance in the interview an improvement of 20 points in your GMAT score will help in balancing any performance deviation in your application and interview.

Please feel free to connect with us for a detailed profile evaluation.

Hi,

You have good experience in the technology and consulting domain for which demand is high in the job market particularly for those people who have completed an MBA. In addition, you have good NGO experience which adds value to your profile.

Your current GMAT score is good enough for IIM I/L/K/U, SP Jain, XLRI but for IIM A/B/C, ISB you will either require an improvement of at least 20 points in GMAT or a very good admission application followed by an above-average interview.

So you can either go for a 20 point GMAT improvement or start preparing a unique application essay.

Any comments, feelings, advice to share?: For aspirants, after getting the GMAT score, filling the application is the critical part, spend time for each and every details, think about what you did in the past and relate to the function of your company not just as the "what i did". Review the application number of times. For the interview, speak to yourself or record the audio and listen to your answers to the basic questions such as why MBA, why "the college", why now , etc. If you listen, you will know, how you have performed and you will get clarity about what to improve. Be in touch with current affairs for interview apart from the details about your current industry.
