Hey man, great profile. Decent acads (Gmat might be slightly low but could work), great work experience and nice extra currics. Focus on your resume points, essays/SOP, and recommendations. You have a decent chance of a shortlist (nor sure how much does the round affect the chances). Good luck!

PS: I'm no expert but I got IIMA PGPX and ISB PGP admits.

Hi , I encourage you to go ahead and apply to IIM A/ B/ C as you have more than 7 years of work experience . Your profile is a good fit . GMAT score is also decent . I don’t know if a 700 or more would be needed for you

Hi Pranav,

GMAT 680 is sufficient GMAT to get into Top Indian B Schools - IIMA/B/C, ISB with your profile and accomplishments.

Average GMAT scores of IIMA/B/C hovers around 690. For ISB, its around 700. That means your GMAT is only slightly less than the half of the population studying in these colleges. This 10 point gap can be easily covered by profile marks, SOP marks, essay marks and interview marks. Most colleges follow the pattern of one third weight-age each to GMAT, SOP+essay+profile, interview.

Your profile is very strong. You bring diversity to the batch. Your accomplishments are far better than average candidates. So there is enough leverage to cover up 680 GMAT, which in itself is not a bad GMAT. You just need a good application which truly brings out the best of you and an above average interview performance.

For candidates with Government of India background and especially in your case with an added advantage of defense background, the GMAT requirement take a back seat with a good application and profile.

Infact, you can apply in 2021 admission cycle itself if you wish so. You have a very bright chance of conversion.

Thanks!

I’m an Indian female, age 26 with 56 months of work ex (as of March 2021). I took my GMAT in October along with my full time job and scored 620. I work in Marketing as an associate manager and handle a lot of creative and brand marketing work. I want to know if I have any chances of acceptance in IIM-A for the executive MBA program?

I scored 80% in my B.Tech and have been working in marketing since. I have received multiple awards in my job as well as have been associated with an NGO as a volunteer event coordinator.

Hi, it would be better if you improve your GMAT score. IIMA pgpx's average GMAT is around 700. You will be on the lower end of the work experience spectrum so always better to have a good GMAT score.

Your profile is good but I guess a GMAT score close to 680 would increase your chances of scoring an admit for the top IIMs. Said that, GMAT is just one part of your application, your essays and your interview plays an equally important role in getting that admit email from IIMs.

Hello! 680 is a decent enough score to get an interview call. There is no need to cancel the score at all. But as a common rule, the higher the GMAT score the better it is.
Having said that, GMAT is just one part of the application process and you would need to write an equally strong application and SOP/Essays and have a cracking interview for the final selection.
You have good experience and your international WorkEx adds more weight to the profile. If you feel 680 is your best and you don't have time to better it this year, then go with it. If you think you have enough time to better the score and still have time to write a cracking application, take the GMAT again.

Hi Mansoor,

Congratulations on your GMAT exam.

IIMs or ISB do not have GMAT as their sole criteria; they look at your profile holistically.

That being said, 630 is definitely on the lower side for an engineering background. The general cutoff of IIMs and ISB hover around 690+.

If you are confident that you can score this much in 15 days, please retake your GMAT, otherwise, wait for the next year and then apply with a better GMAT score.

Thanks,
Vikram

Hi Prateek,

Your GMAT score is on the lower side than the class average. Do you have anything else to compensate for that? Being a CA differentiates you from the pool of Engineers, but do be cognizant that there are a large number of CAs applying to these courses.
That being said, we have seen many applicants get into IIM A and B at 640+ scores with a good profile and a strong application (and essays).

Regards,
Tridisha
