You can acquire a general MBA from IIM Calcutta in two ways:
1. MBA via the CAT-PGP route. 2. MBA via the GRE/GMAT-MBAEx route.
The Post Graduate Programme in Management for Executives (MBAEx) is one of the best 1-year full-time residential programs in the world.
In 2020, the PGPX programs Ranked#42 in Financial Times Global MBA Rankings. Triple Accredited - AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS
Eligibility:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent. - Valid GRE/GMAT score. - Minimum 25 years of age before program commencement. - Minimum 5 years of full-time work experience between graduation and program commencement.
My Profile: Applied For: IIMC MBEx Class of 2021–2022. Round 1. Education: Bachelor of Arts (Public Administration), Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration (Human Resource)
Work Experience: Indian Air Force (6 Years - Technician) Indian Army (10 Years - Officer)
Motivation to Apply: - Looking for a transition from the Armed Forces to the Corporate world and needed quality education to set my foot confidently in the Corporate environment. - Keeping in mind the COVID environment and the present visa issues in US, I wanted to pursue the best possible education available in the country - Applied to IIM A (Selected), B (Could not make it), C (Selected), and ISB (Interviewed) & just to try myself in Schulich School of Business (selected) also.
Pre-Interview: All interviews for Round 1 were online (Zoom) given the COVID-19 situation. Received a pre-interview zoom link to check for connectivity issues and some due diligence from IIMC admission staff.
Interview Experience: Time: 0900 IST | 12 Sep - My slot had 5 candidates and I had to wait for one and a half hour before getting into that interview room. Panel: Two current professors at IIMC (One Male(M) and one Female(F)). Both teach the MBAEx class.
M: So Manish tell us more about yourself, what do you do, what is your current work profile, why do you want to do an MBA at this juncture? I had prepared an Elevator Pitch for such a question. Would highly recommend this to everyone as it provides the perfect opportunity to express your reasons and better place your candidature to the panel. Delivered that clearly in around 120 seconds meeting all objectives.
M: So you are presently stationed at which place and where all have you been posted? Me: I narrated my place op postings in a chronological manner.
F: I see that you come from Prayagraj, tell me how has the name change of your native place affected the place? Me: I gave my point of view but this question came in as a shocker to me and was not well prepared for this. I even changed my stand while giving my answer to which the lady in the interview panel took note of and expressed her views - not a good situation in an interview.
M: Tell us about the recent Indo-China situation. Me: Explained in detail.
F: Tell us about the Chicken Neck Corridor? Me: Explained along with the Dhoklam incident.
M: Have you heard about DBO? Me: Explained along with Galwan Valley Incident.
F: Why do you have this interest in operations post your MBA? I told them about my current job which basically dealt with operations (operations of war), also how I had a good exposure of working on supply chains and infrastructure development while serving in the armed forces, and from there I connected my response as to why Operations as my preferred field.
M: Prayagraj is famous for Kumbh Mela, where three rivers meet up. Tell us about this? Explained. Named three rivers (Ganga, Jamuna and Saraswati).
F: Where does Saraswati river originate and where does it terminate? Me: Didnt knew the answer so I said so. They called me to take a guess to which I again said no as I had no idea.
Both Panelist: Any questions for us? Thanked the panel for taking out the time. (You may choose to ask any question which you could not find an answer to on the website/ webinars/ speaking to alumni)
Tips:
- Be calm.
- Be direct, to the point, yet relevant. Standard MBA questions and answers should be in your mind all the time.
- Research. About the school and program. Talk to alumni. Get an idea about the course from them.
- It’s totally okay to not know something. Tell them. Honesty is always appreciated. You can evade the extempore topic too if you feel you’re not comfortable.
- Be clear as to what you want from the school and what you are bringing to the class.
- Believe in yourself.
Result: Selected!

Hi tyson1990, congrats on the admit. There is a group for IIM C Admits, however as I have decided to take the IIM A offer, I am not a part of the IIM C group. Connect with admits to IIM C on this platform, they will further guide you to the other group.
