Hi Prokiller! :)

Profile looks suitable for the listec Indian B-schools, but GMAT score is low especially since you belong to the overrepresented IT services area. A strong application with a very good essay will be essential to get calls from A, B and C. Focus on highlighting your wide array of experiences and learnings and show absolute clarity on why you need an MBA now.

That being said, we have witnessed a few IT services folks getting into the top IIMs with a 680 score (but stellar application) in the last few years. So work hard for an impressive application.

Regards,
Tridisha

Hi
Please can someone evaluate my profile.
I am a mechanical engineer with 11 years of experience.
I have completed my education from UK.
BEng (Hons) Automotive Engineering from University of Hertfordshire (Full Time ) - 1st Class Honours
MSc Mechanical Engineering from University of Huddersfield (Part Time) - with Merit

As part of my undergraduate term, I completed a year of full time paid industrial placement with Cummins Generators UK. (2006-2007)

I was employed with Cummins UK for 5 yrs (2008-13) during which time I completed my Part Time Masters funded by them.
Thereafter I worked with Cummins India for the next 5 yrs. (2013-2018)
During these 10 years I completed my 6 Sigma (DFSS) Green Belt certification and Chartered Engineer certification.
I was able to win some critical business for my employers and resolve some customer critical failure issues. As a result I was awarded engineering quarterly award for my contribution.

I took a break in 2018 due to some family reasons and then rejoined employment in 2019 with JCB. Here I have worked for little over a year. During which time I have developed Generators and recently have been awarded JCB Business Excellence Award.

I took my online GMAT test on 6 Sep and got a score of 590.
I am positive I can score higher as I have been scoring 660 in my mock tests.

I am looking to break free of the core engineering run of the mill and want to rise above the ranks through an MBA.
I am looking at IIM C,L,A as my options.

If there are other ways to leverage my experience apart from doing an MBA, I am open to those views as well. Looking forward to your advice.

Hi Archisman,

Your GMAT score is on the lower side, would urge you to focus on that and get it up by 90-100 points. Profile wise, things look good. However, with 11 years of experience under your belt, you have to work more on analyzing your reasons for pursuing MBA and your goals after that. You would also need to show clarity of thought on your life journey and future choices.

Regards,
Tridisha

Hi, do you think I have a good chance of being shortlisted for IIM A -PGPX ?

I gave the online GMAT on 24.08.2020 and I scored 640 (Q47 V31)

Not too happy with my score, I decided to give another try , this time at a test center . My exam was yesterday and I improved my score to 700 (Q49 V35). Now, something about me- I am 29 years old, female and I am a Chartered Accountant in practice . I cleared in 2014, so that makes it 6 years of work-ex. I have always worked in a firm where a family member was a founding partner. ( Would working in a family owned firm be looked upon negatively ?) Since clearing my CA exams, I have obtained two additional post qualification diplomas from ICAI. Recently I have also cleared the Independent Director's exam conducted by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. My areas of practice range from Transfer Pricing,Audits, Income Tax to Project Financing . Since the past two years I have also appeared as an authorized representative before the National Company Law tribunal, so add a bit of litigation experience to my profile.

I missed the first round as I wasn't too happy with my score. Please help me in going about the process. Also, is the verbal score (V35) a problem

Hi ShivnaM,

This is a good profile and the score. The verbal score will not be a problem. In addition, working in the family business will not be considered negatively. Your post-PGPX goals would need to be very clear- if back to family business, then why PGPX or working somewhere else, then you'd cover why you're moving out of the business and joined it in the first place.

All the best!

Hi spriyam,

This is an impressive profile- great mix of acads, professional experience and extra-curricular. Do focus on getting a score in the 690+ range, then you'd have a much better chance at the IIMs. You could consider ISB as well. What are your post MBA goals? Happy to discuss the profile in detail.

Cheers,

Hi Abhi0706,
While your acads, extra-curricular, etc. are good, would need to know more about your post MBA goals and your current nature of work, achievements, etc. to evaluate the profile and suggest options.

Your extra-curricular would be appreciated especially at schools such as ISB and NUS.

Hi !!
Please evaluate my profile for IIM-A/B/C

I "THINK" I might represent somewhat below average represented profile. Here are the key highlights:

1. Decent 88% and 86% in 10th & 12th standard respectively
2. Undergraduate GPA - 2.92
3. Work Ex - 8.5 years (Oil & Gas MNCs)
4. 2+ years of International exposure in oilfield operations(UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iraq)
5. Total of Four papers published, two of them with leading industry researchers.

Now comes the major problem: I decided to resign from my present company in Saudi in Jan,2020 to join a new company in Kuwait (PICKED THE WORST TIME TO RESIGN RIGHT??) and now I'm currently waiting for Kuwait to open its borders so I can join the job. This means I'm currently not a working professional.
Hence the main reason why I decided to explore the world of MBA and now ended up with GMAT 690 in my first attempt. Should I care to improve my score or will the representation land me up somewhere in IIM-C atleast.

Feedback will be highly appreciated.

Hi ysp4ever,

Thanks for sharing the request. Its a case in point that many candidates are going through at this point in time because of the unprecedented situation all around.
A first cut of your profile presents a very decent profile, one that could add value to a class at IIM A /B /C. You have decent acads with international experience and are close to the average experience bracket at the 1-year programs. So far, all good.
The only pain point is that your are not employed. Now the adcoms will care about that only if you present a profile that may not be attractive to employers post-MBA or have mismatch in your goals. Placements after 1-year MBA happens either on basis of experience or on aptitude --- depends on preference of different employers.
So, in a nutshell, if you can bring out the high points in your career, project how you can add value to the MBA cohorts, and have clarity on your post-MBA goals, you would be able to make it.
690 is a good score. Don't spend energy on retaking the GMAT. Trust us, it won't boost your chances much for your target schools. Instead focus on having a stellar profile and you would make it.

Feel free to get in touch with us here for any queries.

Cheers !
