Assessing each statement:
I. Between 1947 and 1957, there were no years when more than 5 million widowed or divorced were in the labor force.
TRUE. The top all-white strip gives the number of widowed or divorced women in the labor force.
The difference between where the all-white strips's bottom and top lines hit on the left hand side of the graph indicates the total number of women.
There is only one place on the graph where the gap between top and bottom indicates that the number might be close to 5 million: around 1957, the measure looks to be a bit more than 16 million up to about 21 million.
(21 million) - (16+ million) is not more than 5 million. TRUE
II. In every year between 1947 and 1972, the number of single women in the labor force has increased.
FALSE. In the first years, 1947 to about 1951, on the graph, that number decreases.
III. In 1965, women made up more than 1/3 of the total labor force.
TRUE. The pie chart says that in 1965, women made up 33.4 percent of the labor force. 1/3 = 33.333... percent.
33.4 percent > 33.333...
