A certain type of mold known to cause a skin rash was discovered in the air-conditioning system of an office building where the workers had been complaining of this skin rash. The company hired to eliminate the mold cleaned out the entire air-conditioning system with a spray that was scientifically proven to kill this type of mold within 30 days. Therefore, any worker's skin rash appearing more than 30 days after the air-conditioning system had been cleaned could not have been caused by this particular mold.

Which of the following, if true, most seriously weakens the conclusion above?

A.The skin rash caused by the mold resembles rashes caused by common allergies.

B. Excessive moisture buildup in the AC system, which was the primary cause of the mold, was subsequently eliminated by repairs to the system.

C. The spray used to eliminate the mold is not effective against all types of organisms that may grow in AC systems.

D. The mold found in the building's AC system can survive and breed in many parts of the building, including the carpeting.

E. In buildings whose AC systems are infested with this mold, some individuals do not develop skin rashes.

A.The skin rash caused by the mold resembles rashes caused by common allergies.
-Out of scope. Not talking about other allergies.

B. Excessive moisture buildup in the AC system, which was the primary cause of the mold, was subsequently eliminated by repairs to the system.
-How mold was cleared and how AC was repaired doeson't matter

C. The spray used to eliminate the mold is not effective against all types of organisms that may grow in AC systems.
-Spray is not effective to other organisms. Doesn't matter.

D. The mold found in the building's AC system can survive and breed in many parts of the building, including the carpeting.
-Mold is present in the building other than AC. Could cause the rashes. Weaken above argument. (AC is not the only reason)

E. In buildings whose AC systems are infested with this mold, some individuals do not develop skin rashes.
- Some individuals do develop, some don't. Doesn't matter in reappearance of the rashes after 30 days.

Which of the following, if true, most seriously weakens the conclusion above?

A.The skin rash caused by the mold resembles rashes caused by common allergies..............this strengthens the doubt that rash may not be due to mold.

B. Excessive moisture buildup in the AC system, which was the primary cause of the mold, was subsequently eliminated by repairs to the system..................strengthens the conclusion.

C. The spray used to eliminate the mold is not effective against all types of organisms that may grow in AC systems.............we are not concerned about all types of organisms. OFS

D. The mold found in the building's AC system can survive and breed in many parts of the building, including the carpeting.

E. In buildings whose AC systems are infested with this mold, some individuals do not develop skin rashes..................some case cannot be taken for all. This does neither strengthen nor weaken the conclusion.

Why does not (A) weaken the conclusion?

Common allergies (alternate source) than main source (mold) causes allergies (effect.)

The question's conclusion is
"Therefore, any worker's skin rash appearing more than 30 days after the air-conditioning system had been cleaned could not have been caused by this particular mold."

Which of the following, if true, most seriously weakens the conclusion above?

We r asked to weaken.. So we have to prove any case of skin rashes even after 30days of cleaning of AC system is still due to same mold..

A.The skin rash caused by the mold resembles rashes caused by common allergies.

Option A above no where states that rashes are due to mold. Rather if A is correct it will strengthen the conclusion.

I hope, it helped.. If yes kudos!!

Cheers!!
