Hey. Did anyone record the video essay for Fisher application? What kind of questions does the school ask?

This is a reference to last year's video q's so it may or may not apply, but expect basic behavioral interview questions. Tell me about a leadership experience, failed project, tough team, etc. Last year had a few video questions and a written question. From what I understand, not everyone gets the same questions, so don't rely on what you read or see on here to prepare something scripted.

Also, I am still available to answer any questions about life at Fisher, classes, [exciting changes], etc. Feel free to shoot me a pm and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

just got done with the video essays. Of all the schools I've applied, my responses on this one turned out the worst lol.
Hoping to get an invite, might be tough now lol

What questions were you asked?

There were 4 questions:
1) Describe a time where you were overwhelmed or frustrated at work or school. What was your reaction? What was the outcome and what did you learn from it?
2) Describe a situation at school or work where you were doing things differently and sought out advice. What changed, how did you manage to work things in your favor and what was the response/outcome?
3) Written response: Describe an ethical issue that challenged you. How did you approach this challenge? Why was it difficult? What did you learn from this experience?
(This went pretty well since I had a story around this so it got done well.)
4) Tell us something interesting about yourself that we won't find anywhere else in the application. (This was pretty easy one but I fumbled and stammered. I could pitched this one better had I spoken slowly and clearly).

Best of luck to rest of the applicants !!

Hi,

Could you tell me how much was the preparation time for the questions and what was your response for the second question.

Thanks,

1) 45 sec prep time 1.5 mins for answering
2) 45 sec prep time 1.5 mins for answering
3) 8 mins
4) 30 sec prep time 1 min for answering

For Q2, I gave an example of how I was leading a new team, so I micromanaged alot which came out highly unproductive. Decided to delegate tasks and enourage inputs for team members regardless of their expreince/position. This unified the team and we delievered the project on time. Not sure how this would help since it would vary person to person. For me, my response felt way to fake i guess.

Hi cxa0897

I hope you spent wonderful time in Fisher.

I would like to know about the [exciting changes] you mentioned above. I heard a lot of changes in Fisher's MBA. Could you elaborate?

Sure! This hasn't "technically hit the press yet"....but here's what I can share publicly

Some of the changes are incremental improvements to what is already being piloted with my class and the current 2nd years and some are brand new.

One of the biggest changes is the much more integrated core and additional experiential learning throughout the full 2 years. These include case workshops with faculty members from multiple departments(law, engineering, multiple MBA profs), a business projects class through the spring of year 1, a social impact challenge(project) through fall of year 2 with a local company, and a capstone at the end of year 2 to give one final experiential project.

This is in addition to GAP which takes you out of country as a consultant to companies and GBE which lets you experience business from an international point of view.

To say I am jealous of the changes is an understatement.

Beyond the curriculum changes, majors are no longer required so you have a ton of freedom in terms of electives, the pre-term is being extended and modified to be much more engaging than mine was, and you'll have 2nd year mentors, career counselors, and professional development coaching along the way.

We've had some (positive in my opinion) changes to our leadership team so fun stuff will continue to keep rolling out between now and next year.

I'd expect something official to hit P&Q soon, but I'm not personally involved in the marketing so don't hold me accountable on that.

Wow cxa0897
Thanks for you enlightening us. This is really significant development that Fisher must market for it. I have not seen this before.

The experiential coursework is unparalleled. Can you shed light on 'business lab 1 & 2? Also what is meant by "Social Impact Challenge"? What does it target?

My understanding of the Social Impact Challenge is that students are expected to take what they learned through their internship and apply it to local companies in Columbus as part of a short term project. It's kind of a consultant/board member thing to give back in the community and to gain experience in project management. I believe students will be able to find their own projects in companies they are interested in, but I'm not positive.

Business lab 1 and 2 I suspect are a precursor to this, and I'd imagine that projects will again be sourced locally for groups of students to work on. I haven't heard much about this set of courses yet, but one of the new directors is very passionate about using the resources in Columbus and given back at the same time, so this checks out in those regards.

I'm sure a lot of this will develop over the next 18-24 months so take this as "direction" rather than "gospel", but this is my current understanding of what is in the works.

edit. Here's the old (my) curriculum structure for comparison
