St (1) For x = 2 and y = -2 also , | x | = | y | Hence it is not sufficient.

St (2) Similar to St (1) , St (2) holds true for x = 2 and y = -2 as well as x = 2 and y = 2... Hence not sufficient.

St (1) + St (2) combined gives no additional information.

Hence Option (E) is our choice.
