Thank your guys for this great resource. Noticed the following problems when I tried it (12/24/2012):

1. Take test online link does not work.
2. Typo on question 16 , option 1. should be "Set T" instead of "Set S".
3. Missing solution to Question 21 (link does not work).
4. Question 33. It would help if the question stated that mixture consisted "only" of chestnuts and walnuts. Otherwise drawing the inference Y=1-X (as should be used in order to get to a solution) does not seem intuitive.

The explanation to the 19th question, I think, has a small typo when it says:

"The set could be {20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 26, 29, 70}"

Since they all have to be different integers the third to last should be 28, probably.

Hi,
I have recently started preparing for GMAT and have just now become an active member of the forum. I will surely be downloading these questions. These questions were uploaded in 2009, I don't know, if solving these questions help me, since it has been more than 3 years since the questions were made.

Kindly help.

Please let me know, in how much time, should a student solve these question and what should be his score in order to achieve excellent score in GMAT.

GMAT Club math questions are harder than those appearing on the GMAT, so usually students spend more than 2 minutes on solving them.

I got 10/15 on the lower level, 11/15 on the medium level, and 9/15 on the upper level. This was pretty tough - I got 30/45 total, and only got 10 of the last 21 correct. Not sure if I was tired or just bad at those topics.

I took the official GMAT practice exam and got a 740 - 48Q and 44V. But I got smoked on this exam. Are there any materials to analyze this exam on this site? I looked around but it's a bit confusing.

Dear Gmatclub members,

Could you please confirm if one should take this test "before reading all the material" or "post reading all the material" . Since the name is a diagnostic test, I am assuming, one should take it before one starts preparing. But, if its not the case, i don't want to take the test and get disappointed by looking at poor scores!

I'd still suggest to take diagnostic test to know your weak areas, then to go through basics and finally to take other GMAT Club tests.

First of all thanks BB and others for this wonderful test. Really Hats off to all the guys!!
After totally out of touch from studies for last 5-6 years, I took this practice diagnostic test and as expected got only 20 out of 45.
Took around 2mins 45 secs for each questions ( used the timer downloaded from gmatclub). I am planning to appear for the actual test by end of this year (dec '13).

My first basic silly question : Do I really have any chance to achieve a target of 650-700?
Another question is what should be my approach, brush up the basics of quant & and then try another time for the same test and analyze my performance or take some other diagnostic test (from gmat club)?
Thanks once again !!

Thanks for the awesome post.
Q 12 of d01 of the online version (it is different from pdf version)

Quote:
If x= 4th root(x^3 + 6x^2) , then the sum of all possible solutions for x is:

a) -2
b) 0
c) 1
d) 3
e) 5

According to me, the answer should be c. But, OA is d.

The explanation says, x cannot be negative, because even with a negative value of x, the equality holds.
Moreover, the question is talking about all possible solutions of x, not just real solutions.

No, C is not correct.

If you substitute x=-2 the equation will NOT hold true. Also, note that ALL numbers used on the GMAT are real numbers.

Check:
new-algebra-set-149349-60.html#p1200948
new-algebra-set-149349-80.html#p1202620
new-algebra-set-149349-100.html#p1228245

Hope it helps.

If you substitute x=-2. It becomes

LHS = -2
RHS = 4th root (-8+24) = 4th root (16) = +/-2 (because in the question it is not mentioned that x is only +ve)

So, equality holds true for x=-2.

In the solutions in each of the posts it is mentioned that \sqrt{expression} >=0, which is not true.
Square root of a number can be +/- a number.

Similarly 4th root of a number can be +ve or -ve.

But, 4th power of a number will always be +ve.

So, in the expression in question.

X can be + or -. But, (x^3 + 6x^2) should always be greater than or equal to 0.

16 = (2)^4
or
16 = (-2)^4

16 = (2)^4
or
16 = (-2)^4

Again, if you substitute x=-2 into $$x=\sqrt[4]{x^3+6x^2}$$ the equation will NOT hold: $$-2\neq{\sqrt[4]{16}=2$$

We have had a major update to the Diagnostic test:
Over 50% of questions have been revised or replaced
The new PDF has been published
The answer sheet has also been updated... in other words - everything was updated

great tool!

I believe question 8 is incorrect. It seems as if the question has been updated but not the answer and link in the excel-file.
Shouldn´t it be: A --> 7/11 = 0,63636363

Thanks, let me update the spreadsheet/links. It seems we have lost a version as they seemed to have been updated.

Thank you. I have been working on the diag test this morning/afternoon (and still working on it actually - moving some questions around and rearranging the questions). I think you probably caught me during my update when I messed a few things up

Should be done by Monday.
