GMAT Focus Quant Scoring Algorithms

Question

Hi guys,

Can anybody explain this weird scoring from GFE?

In 2 of my mocks, I got 10/21 and 13/21 correct answers in Quant. My Quant scores were 75/90 and 77/90, respectively.

In the actual test, I got 15/21 correct answers but my Quant score actually plummeted, just 73/90:lol:

Can anyone tell me what would be the possible reasons for this weird trend?

It's too soon to say but I have seen that people getting 90 in a section generally have all questions correct. Also, DI is more forgiving than Verbal and Verbal is more forgiving than Quant in FE, it seems. e.g. Quant may allow 1 error, Verbal 2 and DI 3 for a similar score. That said, most people find Quant of FE easier than Quant of Classic.

Two people may get the same correct/incorrect ratio but end up with different scores. The difficulty level of the questions can be a factor, for example.

Hi  Mochiithui , can you please post your complete focus experience?

And to answer your question, it always depends on the level of difficulty of the questions and not the number of questions you got correct.
Additionally, one other possibility i could think would be missing out answering a question which might have impacted the score by large.
have you checked your ESR?

Hi all,

Thank you for your information. Yeah, I think I probably missed too many "easy" questions. There might be a chance that I was deemed as missing a question because I was in the "Review questions screen" when the clock timed out. Not sure if this is the case?

In terms of the FE experiences: 
- Quant and Verbal appear to be similar to the original GMAT exam.
- DI is new but I can say the Official Practice Questions and Practice Exam covered the actual test well. I personally do not like the table & chart formatting of DI. They can make it friendlier to the eyes (e.g., bigger text and numbers, less color distractions (they use many high-contrasting colors which normally fight for attention)).
- General format: I'd prefer to have 2 shorter breaks than one 10-minute break. I felt a bit dehydrated during the last section although I had quite enough water in my 10-minute break.

If you get some easy questions wrong in the initial stages, you may never reach the harder questions. So your accuracy would be high (since you are getting easier questions) but your score would not be. Also, exactly how they have made GMAT Focus adaptive in spite of the review option is something that we will get clues about in time (we will likely never get to know that exact principles). For now, the test takers should just focus on ensuring that they not make mistakes in questions tested at or below their ability.

I agree that the likely cause for the score drop is that you got a few easy quant questions wrong, and thus you saw a lower quant score. That said, do you plan to give the GMAT another shot?

Hi  KarishmaB , continuing on the same, is there a range of number of wrong answers one can afford vs the corresponding section score (out of 90)? we have the same for the gmat classic, although not official maybe, but it's there.
