Option D.
Let side of X=2
Side of Y=1
Volume of cube=(side)^3
Vol. Y=1
Vol. X=8
Ratio=1/8

Re: If the length of an edge of cube X is twice the length of an edge of [#permalink]
The volume of a cube is given by the formula V = s^3, where V is the volume and s is the length of an edge.

Let's denote the length of an edge of cube Y as 'a'. Therefore, the length of an edge of cube X is 2a.

The volume of cube Y is then V_Y = a^3.

The volume of cube X is V_X = (2a)^3 = 8a^3.

To find the ratio of the volume of cube Y to the volume of cube X, we divide the volume of cube Y by the volume of cube X:

V_Y / V_X = (a^3) / (8a^3) = 1 / 8

Therefore, the ratio of the volume of cube Y to the volume of cube X is 1/8, which corresponds to option (D).
