Denied after interviewing on February 20th. I must have some bad luck, because according to GMATclub, I am the very first applicant to be denied after an interview. I thought the interview went well, I was confident, spoke clearly, and wasn't nervous, however, I probably could have been more enthusiastic about why I wanted to attend Stern in hindsight.

I believe my 3.02 GPA is really holding me back, although I am a CFA charterholder, I thought that would have made up for the bad GPA.

Best of luck to the rest of you all, hopefully Duke comes through for me!

Ugh, sorry to hear that, I hope Duke comes through for you. If you don't mind my asking, what makes you say that you could have been more enthusiastic about Stern? What did you say (or not say) that makes you feel that way?

He asked me "What do I look for in a school"
I replied with "tight knit community with an international focus", and I explained that I like the social aspects of the school, and that the students were, in my experience, more extroverted and outgoing than students from other schools (notably Haas). Also, I explained that the school had a surprisingly "tight-knit" feel to it, even though the school was in Manhattan. I also explained to him that a very diverse international student body was important to me, and that I was excited about Stern's DBi programs.

However, when I look back on it, I guess "tight knit with an international focus" could apply to pretty much any B-school.

I don't mean to pile on but it sounds like your answer could be applicable to other schools in NYC. That might have raised a red flag but you never know. The application process is a black box.

How I answered this question was to list classes/professors/programs that are specific to NYU that I would want to do and how they blend into my goals and who I am as a person. Maybe this is helpful for your other interviews.

Hey Chateau -- I pretty much said what you did in my interview, but as Urarunner's pointed out, also dropped in some nuggets about how specific classes, professional programs (like IMI) and clubs would help me get the experience I need to make a successful career transition. Good luck to you!

Yes, I agree with you. Although, I did mention in my interview that Columbia did not have the same "tight-knit" feel as NYU, and I preferred the community of Stern better. The interview was very short (30 mins), and the lack of mentioning of those classes/programs was probably what got me dinged. I barely mentioned any of Stern's programs/classes related to the concentration I would be focusing on (entrepreneurship), and that was what I was really worried about after the interview.

Good Luck All!

Are there any more people who haven't heard back from the adcom yet ? I applied for R2 on 15th Jan and still waiting to hear back.

I haven't heard anything back. I am a domestic applicant who applied 10 mins before the deadline. I honestly think its game over for us!

sorry to hear that

I'm not an expert, but I think it was not your gpa that hurt your application
I think these numbers are just PROXIES that helps admissions to guess if you are good enough to do well on classes. If you have other good scores, that won't be a problem for you.

If you are a CFA charterholder, people won't doubt you're a good student
as far as I know, Damodaran (one of Stern's most famous professors) was a level 3 candidate a few years ago and I didn't see any updates about his candidacy

Duke is an awesome school! Good luck there! I'm sure they will value your CFA! (and so will future employers!)

I don't think it's necessarily over. probably just make the calls as they get to applications. I received an email for clarification but no initial decision yet. Applied at the deadline as well.

I think the dings are given out rolling.... I am going to take the fact that we have not been dinged yet itself as a good sign.. :P

I'm an R2 applicant from India. Applied on the deadline and haven't heard from the adcom yet either. I did receive a mail informing me that they hadn't received my official GMAT score which I later resent to them. That might delay the decision but hoping to hear from them soon.

After reading from reading other's experiences on this forum, I have a question/clarification. Do you really not receive an admit call from Stern like most of the other schools do? It's just an update on the website/email and then a welcome packet with scholarship information? So I should be anxiously refreshing the status page instead of staring at my phone?

Yes, it's just a status update -- same for a WL or ding.

I received a status update email first, then a call from the adcom an hour later, then the packet in the mail a few days after that.
