Stern R3 is more or less equivalent to R2 of other schools, it doesn't impact your chances much. You can check the decision tracker to get an idea. I checked 2018-19 application cycle, R2 had 40 applications submitted and 20 admits. R3 had 38 applications submitted and 17 admits. Although this data is just an indicator and not accurate picture, it is clear that there is no significant difference between the 2 rounds.

NYU knows that many R1 decisions come out in December and lot of good applicants will apply in Jan, so they would keep enough seats for R3. I'd suggest to apply and not worry about these factors much.

As an R2 applicant I am equally anxious about R1 invites for Indian applicants. Something is not right given many people from US and other international locations already received invites 🤔

I think NYU Stern gave too many deferrals to Indian Students last year, which is why they dont really have slots at NYU for this year. Only someone with an extraordinary profile might be interviewed.

I sincerely hope its not true, stern should have been forthcoming about this or atleast be Liberal with application fee waivers if they are allowing large deferrals. I know I am not supposed to, but I will feel cheated if this is true as I could have used my time, money and effort to apply in R1 of some other school

I am afraid the above is correct ^^^ I applied R1 on Oct 15th and only just received my interview invite on Tuesday. Interview happens week after next. I wish everyone luck on both R1 and R2 apps (and beyond). This is a strange and nerve wrecking time for everyone, so hoping for the best!!!

I know people who deferred as well as people who did go and you would surely not like the numbers. Out of 30 or so Indians selected, only 6-7 joined this year. So effectively that and maybe couple more is all the space they have in their program. Good luck to everybody though :)

You are right about this. Looks like a tough year for Indian applicants, especially at Stern

After applying on R1 deadline day, I Just received word that I was placed on the waitlist.

I didn’t even have an interview though.

Is this normal?

I know someone who applied last year and was put on the waitlist before the interview. So, it's not unusual.
