Thanks texas101 I see this from the blog

To those of you looking to join us in 2021: my colleagues and I are delighted you’re considering Tuck! We’re currently reviewing our admissions criteria, our application materials, our evaluation process, and our application dates, all with an eye towards opening our application in late June or early July. While there may be a few edits and updates here and there, I don’t anticipate significant changes in any of these important components for the 2020-2021 application. So start tentatively planning now, and we’ll update you throughout June with more details.

I have heard recently that the applicant initiated interview policy at Tuck will not apply for the 2020-2021 application cycle. It sounds like interviews will be virtual, with a committee invite only format like most other schools.

I have heard that Tuck will try to interview as many as possible.

Interesting development if it turns out to be true. What do you think?

It's no brainer to say that TUCK is the most transparent school when it comes to the admission process. The admissions team is really helpful! We can expect more details from the admissions team shortly regarding the class of 2023.

Looks like it is confirmed that there will NOT be applicant initiated interviews for the coming 2023 cycle (at least round 1). I have heard consistently from admissions committee members that Tuck will make every effort to interview as many as possible.

Somewhat expected due to the pandemic unfortunately.

I know for a fact that the Tuck admissions team is pro-active. They will find some solution.
Let's wait for their official decision on this.

"During the 2020-2021 application year, all interviews will be committee-initiated. After you apply, we will review your application and invite you to a virtual interview if we believe it will help us learn more about how you demonstrate our admissions criteria. If invited to interview, you will receive a link to select a day and time that works best with your schedule."

Per Tuck's website, it is confirmed that this application season is committee initiated only.
Understandable, but sad to hear.

This has been absolutely true in our experience as well. If you got dinged from Tuck in a prior year and would like to apply again this year, you should absolutely seek feedback about why you were dinged. Other AdComs either have as a formal policy that they don't provide feedback OR they offer unhelpful feedback like "we just didn't see you as a fit for our class." Tuck will actually go so far as to tell you things you said during the interview that could be red flags ("you didn't have a firm plan for what you wanted to do career-wise post-Tuck") or that your scores were too low ("your undergraduate GPA, combined with a GMAT score that was below our average, raised the concern that you might not be able to handle our rigorous curriculum").

Even if you don't plan on reapplying to Tuck, if you plan on applying to any other business school, you should get feedback, bc you don't want to repeat the mistakes of a failed strategy. If you don't do a good enough job explaining why XYZ career path is the right one for you with Tuck, you are probably going to make that mistake again so it's best to get feedback.

Does anyone know if the word limits for the essays are a hard stop? or is there some flexibility to go over?

Looks like Tuck did a 180, and is now going to let those who apply before september first initiate their own interview.

It is okay to be few words above the word limit as long as the application portal of a particular program allows to upload essays in a pdf format. Tuck's portal did not have that option this year and applicants could only type (or copy-paste) the essays, so the 300 word limit was strict. Hope this helps.

texas101 You are right!

You get a guaranteed interview if you submit your application by Sptember1st deadline. I think this initiative replaces the old age tradition of school visits. Let me explain: Previously, the applicants who were really interested used to visit the Tuck Campus for an interview but due to COVID that won't be possible. For Tuck, to determine interested candidates (who are keen for an interview with TUCK) would submit their application by September 1st. It's an easy way for Tuck to differentiate b/w the students, who are really considering Tuck vs those who apply but without research! What do you say?
