let's consider x portion water is added to 1 liter milk
after mixing:
milk + water -> mixture
1lt + xlt -> (1 + x) lt
85 + 0 -> 111/100 * 85
actual cost -> selling price
(1 + x)85 = 111/100*85
x = 111/100 - 1
x = 11/100
11% water is mixed
after mixing:
milk + water -> mixture
1lt + xlt -> (1 + x) lt
85 + 0 -> 111/100 * 85
actual cost -> selling price
(1 + x)85 = 111/100*85
x = 111/100 - 1
x = 11/100

Water = x liters
Milk = 1 liters
Total = x+1 liters
In 1 liter mixture:-
Milk = 1/(1+x)
Water = x/(1+x)
Total = 1 liter
He sells the mixture at $85 per liter which is his milk cost price
He sells 1 liter of mixture = 1/(1+x) liters of milk at $85
Sales price of 1 liter of milk = $85/{1/(1+x)} = $85(1+x)
Cost price of 1 liter of milk = $85
%profit = {$85(1+x)/$85 - 1}*100% = 11.11%
x*100% = 11.11%
x = .1111
