A = {4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12}
B = {6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20}

Common elements = {6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12} = 7 elements

Answer: Option B

A={4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12}
B={6,7,8,9,10,11,12...}

Thus we see that there are 7 distinct integers that are common to both. B is the correct answer.

A = {4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12}; B = {6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,20}.

A intersect B = {6,7,8,9,10,11,12} = 7 elements. Ans (B).

although i will also go for 7 but the the wording is slightly confused..
for integers common to two sets, the wordings should have been " How many distinct integers do belong to the both sets at the same time?"..
by adding distinct, it may mean distinct integers in the two sets namely 4,5,13 to 20....10 of them and that is their in choices too
However i am sure it means the initial meaning for which 6 to 12 are common or ans &

The overlap is between 6-12. Everything greater than 12 is no more in A while everything smaller than 6 is no more in B. Count the numbers: 12-6 = 6 and add 1. 6+1=7.

Answer B.

Set A and Set B both have 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 in common. That's 7 numbers. Another way to solve is 12-6 = 6 +1 = 7.

I am new to the forum, I still do not get the difference between inclusive integers and concrete integers and distinctive integers whats the difference can you explain it in a way by meanings of each please.

'Inclusive' means 'including'. If I say the range is 2 to 10 , inclusive, we mean that the correct values will be 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10. Had it not said "inclusive" you would have 3,4,5,6,7,8,9

What is a "concrete integer?" Do you want to write discrete ? If it is, then discrete means distinct.

Distinct (and not distinctive!) integers mean not equal or unique integers.

1,2,3,4,5,6 ... are all distinct integers while 1,1,1,1,1... are all same or non distinct integers.

"Inclusive" means that the Integers at the end point of the range must be taken into account
i.e. Range of Integers from 2 to 5 (Both Inclusive) means the set will include {2, 3, 4, 5}

"Distinct" means that the Integers in the set must be all different and no integer in the Set should be repeated
i.e. Set {2, 3, 4, 5} has all distinct Integers whereas Set {2, 3, 3, 4, 5} does NOT have all Distinct Integers due to repetition of 3

"Concrete integers" is not the term that GMAT uses

Distinct integers that belong to both sets at the same time are=6,7,8,9,10,11,12
Answer=7 B

Set A and set B are overlapping. To determine the number overlapping elements determine the points where the overlapping begins and ends: The sets begin to overlap at 6 and end at 12. There are 12 – (6 – 1) = 7 integers between 6 and 12 inclusive.

The correct answer is B.

True that! I applied extra brain assuming question cannot be so simple ;) I counted the distinct integer which are not a part of both sets (excluding 6 to 12), since 6 to 12 has a total of 7 integers and both of the sets have these - that makes it 14 in total so out of total integers in set mentioned - 24, the distinct ones would be 24-14 = 10, hence E. Wording should have been more clear.

I think the wording on this question is confusing. If we're looking for the integers that belong to set A and set B, would they be distinct?

4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12
6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20

Answer is B
