I saw someone asked this in Kellogg chat and I liked the question - anything you would have done differently about the application process? Something you know now that you did not before?

Thankyou Anoncc1234 for being here and your time. My question is around how do you approach your company to fund your MBA, even partially? Do you talk with your manager, HR?

Hmmm.... I took very long time to self-reflect
- Do I really need an MBA, or is it just a social status thing?
- If I want to do MBA, why, and what school REALLY fit me and my goal?

Join as many school events as possible and reflect a lot. Don’t apply to 5-10 schools you don’t really want to get in. Instead, apply to no more than 5 schools that you REALLY want to get in and just do your best

Thanks Palak! Actually MBA sponsorship is a perk of being in MBB firm as long as you join since undergrad and have good performance.

I was about to leave my company during COVID back in 2021. Went for job interview but didn’t know what I really want to do so decide to stay. Explored options in the firm, and MBA was one of that... so here we go!

Talked to my mentors and got recommenders. They’re very supportive. After I got offer, I then contact country manager and HR, with offer letter to obtain sponsorship.

Hi guys, I had a query regarding UCB’s STEM mba and eligibility to get that extended OPT. Would someone who gets placed in say MBB firms get that OPT extended if they did the STEM MBA?

Big congratulations on this. Given your work experience and GMAT it’s a coup ✊ I’m really excited for you. Could you share a little bit more about your profile? How are you liking it? What were your goals?

I agree with most of this, but I feel that for overrepresented folks things are just simply more precarious. You don’t know who else like you is applying, So found that last round it really paid off for my client who had a 710 GMAT (but good EA) score, IIT Indian male, no real leadership record, to apply to a plethora of schools. We tried to repurpose as much as we could, and also do the proper research to customize the essays. He’s at McCombs because tech, we got a lot of offers, but we got a *lot* of WL as well and dings. For the record, I advised him to beef up his leadership profile to get off the waitlist, but he ignored me. So factor in how competitive your profile is or how over represented it is when thinking about the number of business schools you’re applying to. Of course you want to do your best effort, and so don’t jam and cram but look for ways to get more exposure without adding a ton of more work.
