consider the ratio 1:4, therefore original numbers are x and 4x

hence when when 6 is added to smaller number it becomes x+6
new ratio =(x + 6)/4x = 1/2.
solving the above equation we get x = 6, implies 4x = 24
option D

Two integers are in the ratio of 1 to 4. If 6 is added to the smaller number, the ratio becomes 1 to 2. Find the larger integer.

A. 4
B. 6
C. 12
D. 24
E. 30

This is how i solved

Let the ratio be = 1: 4
so 1x : 4x

X being the common multiple

Now We know 1X +6 / 4x = 1/2( New ratio ) Solve for X by cross multipying
We get X = 6 .....

The larger integer was 4X ie 4*6 = 24 ans D
