A pair of pants and a matching shirt cost $52.5 What is the cost of the shirt alone?
(1) The pants cost $37.5.
(2) The pants cost two and a half times as much as the shirt.
So, let's take CP of Pants = x
CP of shirts = y
As we know from the ques stem x + y= $52.5 --->Eq 1
Statement 1 Sufficient
37.5 + y = 52.5
y = $15
Statement 2 Sufficient
x = 5/2y
Let's put in the --->eq 1
y + 5/2y = 52.5
So, y = 15
Hence, the correct answer is option D

Statement 1: The pants cost $32.95. So the shirt is 52-32.95. No need to solve substraction, it's sufficient
Statement 2: The pants cost two and a half times as much as the shirt. So, if shirt costs x, pants costs 2.5x, thus 52=2.5x+x=3.5x. x=52/3.5. No need to solve division, it's sufficient.
Answer: D.
