Gap is usually considered a red flag.. if you have any specific reason to cover for this gap then that should be mentioned in additional essay.. all the best

So I have currently rejoined work, I work at Ogilvy. I had to take a career break of around 3.3 years due to health issues (IBS and severe insomnia caused by IBS). The doctor just gave clearance. While I focused on recovering -
1. I created a bunch of spec ads on Instagram, the account has like 8k followers
2. Freelanced for two wellness start-ups
3. Created an AI content creator (since I write and read history short stories), again has around 10k followers
4. Ran my already active poetry page with over 40k followers.

I had quit after 2 promotions as a middle level manager. I am at roughly the same starting point. GMAT is 675 and my history of work is at tier 1 ad agencies like FCB and Ogilvy with Tier 1 brands. I have handled teams and clients. I also come from Top 10 commerce college in India. Published author and black belt in martial arts.
College GPA:
Bcom - 74%
Mcom - 80%
Educational awards - subject toppers and have also published research papers in journals with great impact scores
Rich college life - led a bunch of organizations.

Will the gap be very adverse for me if I mention these additional activities in my essays?
I'll be applying this year. GMAT is 675.

It is really nice to see that you have come back after a long career break. I would strongly encourage you bring clear focus to how your career was shaping up before the break, the quality of work you were doing and the kind of projects you were trusted with. That context matters a lot.

For health-related breaks, schools do tend to take a more holistic and empathetic view. That said, I think you could give yourself a little more time before applying to the good MBA programs. Maybe a couple of years. You want to show that you are fully back in form, with the same energy and consistency. Your recommendations are also very important. Your recommenders should be able to speak about your recent contributions, your impact on business after returning, and how you are operating in your current role. That kind of recency is needed to add credibility to your story.

Yours is a very unique case so feel free to chat for a deeper review.

Best wishes

You want to show that you are not just back, but fully back in form, with the same energy and consistency. A few strong, recent wins at work can go a long way in reinforcing that.Equally important are your recommendations. Hi SilkPiano,

It’s important to clearly highlight your professional achievements prior to the break. You can definitely mention the break as well, and use it to showcase any meaningful accomplishments during that period.
A lot will also depend on the schools and geographies you’re targeting.

Feel free to reach out if you’d like to discuss this in more detail.

All the best!

This does seem to be a genuine reason for the career gap, something that ISB would be willing to accept as a valid reason.
