Hey guys,
I have a confusion regarding this quote from GMAT official site: Analytical Writing Assessment Score
The Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA) score is an average of the ratings given to the Analysis of an Issue and the Analysis of an Argument sections.
Each response is given two independent ratings. Once both essays have been scored, the scores are averaged to provide an overall score. Scores for the AWA range from 0 to 6 in half-point intervals.
Writing scores are computed separately from the multiple-choice scores and have no effect on the Verbal, Quantitative, or Total scores.
As desribed above, is AWA not going to affect my score then?, But what the purpose of its existence if it is not scored, or are they going to be used by B-schools anyway, if so, does AWA score carry the same weight as GMAT scores?

Sounds to be like you will need to do some more research on the test.
On June 5th the GMAT is changing. There will be one 30 minute AWA section, One 30 minute Integrated reasoning (IR) section, and then the 75 min quant and 75 min verbal. The AWA section is scored out of 6 and really isn't THAT important to Bschools. But you should score a 4.5 or higher, otherwise it will be a red flag that you aren't even a decent writer whatsoever. The new IR section has not started yet, so no one is quite sure how the scoring will reflect, and how much Bschools will use it. Then the 75 min quant and 75 min verbal is the part of the test that will create your total GMAT score out of 800. Neither the AWA or IR will be reflected in your score out of 800. Only the verbal and quant will go into that 800 score. But remember, the AWA and IR have there own importance, so you must give thorough time to these depending on your current skills and goals.
