Hello All,

I joined gmatclub few days back and am really appreciating quality info shared by everyone. Here’s my first post to the group where I am looking for some expert opinion as a litmus test to my study plan for next 6-8 weeks.

Goal: 740+
Timeline: Ideally 6-8 Weeks. Max 8-12 weeks.
Past Actions:
• Kaplan Premier
• CAT tests that came with Kaplan premier
CAT 1 – 580 (Overall: below 56%, Quant: below 59%, IR: 2, Verbal: below 35%
CAT 3 – 640 (Overall: below 73%, Quant: below 85%, IR: 5, Verbal: below 43%
CAT 4 – 670 (Overall: below 84%, Quant: below 92%, IR: 3, Verbal: below 43%
Saved 2 for later.
Currently: reviewing Quiz section available online at Kaplan website.

Questions:
• If you can’t bother reading everything below then my one question to you; does Knewton offer appropriate content to help achieve 740+ score? I like to assume that I have the motivation, commitment and aptitude needed.
• I heard good things from friends and colleagues about Knewton’s online course that is currently priced at $400. I am wondering if it’s the right fit for me given my progress so far, target score and timeline?
• I understand GMAT prep is all about practice, error logs to identify and improve weakness and finally excellent time management. For people who already took Knewton, do you feel the course provided you with everything needed or one still feels the need to invest time and money in OG and MGMAT material to score within top 5%?
• Given my rather weak verbal section, which I believe is more due to lack of practice and less of fundamentals and strategy, do you recommend reviewing MGMAT Verbal CR, SC and RC in addition to Knewton?

Thanks again for your patience and time. I hope someone will find the time to read my post and provide some pointers in the right direction.

What might have worked for me, may not work for you. However, you can go through my debrief that lists out some strategies and resources for the GMAT that I personally used. There is a link to my debrief in my signature. Hope it helps.

Everyone - Thanks for the replies.

Paras - good job with your GMAT Debrief and an excellent score.
Elizabeth and GMAT Pill - thanks for your recommendations.

Quick update for everyone, I finally pulled the trigger and bought Knewton online course. I was really torn between self study using material from MGMAT and Knewton but I guess I always have the option to come back and review few specific books if Knewton doesn't satisfy my needs. I might buy CR Bible (Power Score) and MGMAT- SC at a later stage only because they are highly praised by everyone.

Anyways, the irony is that I took Knewton's diagnostic test and to my surprise I ended up scoring an embarrassing 550 (V29, Q38). I am not sure if the test was tougher than what one might expect on an actual GMAT but the thought did cross my mind that it could be one way to ensure they don't lose on money back guarantee. Who knows, but it seems like an uphill journey for next 2 months.

I covered intro to quant and currently going through their SC section. So far one thing that stands out is their 'Concept' section which has detailed coverage if you feel the need to work on basics. The regular course work is designed for students with average aptitude level with the option to go in depth where needed. This allows me to skip sections where I feel comfortable. Moreover, the concept section automatically populates and purges topics based on how I score and progress. Lastly, each question has detailed answers, explanations which can be conveniently reviewed. It also provides the option to join a discussion that other students are having with knewton instructors. I have used this function effectively when I didn't quite understand why a particular choice was incorrect. I feel this addresses automatic 'error log' and review to some extent.

Overall very well structured course material - pre-assessment, online video instructions, core homework, re-assessment, extra practice homework and finally all necessary notes and class material.

It's a very comprehensive package but I still need to gauge the quality or rather the effectiveness of their material. I'll get back with more feedback once I cover some ground.
