Considering that my testing date is scheduled for February 5th, 2019, should I try and improve both quant and verbal in these next 5 weeks, or should I maybe push my testing date back to end of February? In other words, is it possible for a 60 point improvement within a 5 week time frame? Should I test February 5th regardless and just retake if need be?

My target score is a minimum 670. I've been studying on average approximately 15 hours per week. Additionally, I won't be applying to business schools for about another year and a half (finishing up active duty contract), so hopefully there is plenty of time for a retake. Targeting T25 for a career change.
Till now you've been working on your concepts, which is fine. Now you need to bring everything together (so no more "only quant" or "mostly verbal" :)). I don't know whether 5 weeks is enough time, but, as the first response to your post says, you don't have to take that decision right now.

If I were you, I'd plan for two attempts even if I ended up pushing the first test date back.

Hi Blackhawks32,

I’m glad you reached out, and I’m happy to help. So, given that you have plenty of time before you are going to apply to school, I suggest that you wait to take your GMAT until you are comfortably hitting your score goal on official practice exams. You could push hard for the next 6 weeks and attempt your exam on February 5, but since you have time on your side, why not give yourself a bit more time to ensure that you hit your goal score?

Regarding what to do moving forward, on the quant side, 100% FINISH the Target Test Prep Quant course. If you can complete the entire study plan, you will be able to dominate GMAT quant on test day. Furthermore, it’s a great sign that you were able to increase your quant score from 31 to 45 in just a few months of using our course. Imagine how high you can score if you complete the entire course, right?

Regarding verbal, you will need to spend some more time improving your Critical Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, and Sentence Correction skills. Since your verbal score is stuck at 31, you may need to spend some time working through the foundations of each verbal topic prior to moving on to more advanced concepts. Also, scoring higher than the low to mid-30s in verbal takes going beyond knowing rules and using gimmicky strategies. You must learn how to quickly do in-depth analyses of verbal questions and answer choices. So, you probably will need more than 6 weeks to make major improvements to your verbal skills.

If you’d like more specific advice on how to study GMAT verbal, feel free to reach back out. Also, if you’d like to discuss your progress with the TTP course, feel free to reach out to me directly or hit me up on live chat on Target Test Prep.

Let’s do this!!
