Hi everyone,
I see a lot of people struggling with Sentence Correction, especially when two options both "sound" correct. I wanted to share the 3-step filter I’ve been using to stay consistent. This helped me move from guessing based on "ear" to picking based on logic.
1. The Meaning Filter: Before looking at options, I read the original sentence and summarize the
intended meaning in 3-5 words. If an option changes that meaning (e.g., changing "may" to "must"), it's out immediately.
2. The Grammatical Anchor: I look for one non-negotiable rule in the split. Is it Subject-Verb agreement? Is it a dangling modifier? I pick one "anchor" I am 100% sure of and eliminate.
3. The Conciseness Tie-breaker: Only if two options are grammatically perfect do I look for the more concise one. Most people start here, but it should be the very last step!
I hope this helps someone else who is feeling stuck.
