Although it is commonly believed that a healthy diet consists largely of fresh produce, many nutritionists in fact recommend that certain fruits and vegetables be purchased frozen. Which of the following, if true, would most help explain the nutritionists' recommendations?

A. Fruits and vegetables are consumed on their own by some and are used in baking by others.

B. The cost of shipping frozen fruits and vegetables is generally lower than shipping them fresh.

C. Cold storage technology has increased the storage life of apples to almost a year.

D. Frozen produce, unlike fresh, is picked at its peak and thus contains a richer nutritional profile.

E. Nutritionists' advice tends to be distorted and reframed by the media.

OFFICIAL EXPLANATION

This question asks that we identify the relevant evidence that will help us explain the nutritionists' recommendations. Let's consider the possible answers.

Choices (A) is not even related to frozen food at all, so it is incorrect.

Choices (B), and (C) are related to frozen food but do not explain the nutritionists' recommendations. They can can be discarded.

Choice (D) looks good, but let's set that aside for now and examine (E), as well.

Choice (E) might be tempting because it's obviously related to nutritionists, but the question asks us to explain their recommendations, not the ways in which the public or the media react to them. Choice (D) is the best answer. Nutritionists explain why some things are good for us, and this is the only option that describes why frozen goods are sometimes better for us than fresh ones.

The correct answer is Choice (D)
