I find it much easier to understand with real numbers, so choose (almost) any numbers to replace m,n and p:

In a certain village, m10 litres of water are required per household per month. At this rate, if there are n5 households in the village, how long (in months) will p200 litres of water last?

Reading with numbers it is super easy now.

Water required is 10*5 =50 (m*n)
Water available is 200 (p)

It will last 4 months (p/m*n)

Answer (A)

A. p /mn
B. mn / p
C. mp / n
D. np / m
E. npm

Alternative approach

Just work over units in each options

A. p/mn =
p=lts
m= lts/house/month
n= house

thus p/mn = month....which is time required ....

Ans A

Hi All,

This question can be solved by TESTing VALUES.

IF...
M = 2
N = 3

Then we know that 2 liters are required per household per month and that there are 3 households in the village. In this scenario, we will need 6 liters per month.

P = 12 liters means that this water will last for 2 months, so we're looking for an answer that equals 2 when we plug in the three VALUES chosen.

There's only one answer that matches..

Final Answer:

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
