H + M + P = $2,500

P + M = \(\frac{2}{3}\) H

P = M + 100

Try picking an option to solve. [Note: 2,500 - (P+M) should be divisible by 3]

Therefore, 800, 600, and 500 are crossed out.

Say P = $550 then M = $450

P + M = 1,000

H will be 2,500 - 1,000 = 1,500.

This satisifes: P + M = \(\frac{2}{3}\) H

The hard drive, monitor, and printer for a certain desktop computer system cost a total of $2,500. The cost of the printer and monitor together is equal to 2/3 of the cost of the hard drive. If the cost of the printer is $100 more than the cost of the monitor, what is the cost of the printer?

A. $800
B. $600
C. $550
D. $500
E. $350

PS89670.02
h+ m + p = 2500
p+ m = (2/3)h
p= 100+ m
h+ (2/3)h = 2500
h= 1500
p+m = 1000
p—m =100
2p = 1100
p= 550

Therefore IMO C
