Last year a company made a profit of $60,000. The profit was divided among the 2 owners and their 6 employees. How much did each employee receive from the $60,000?

(1) The sum of money received by the 2 owners was equal to the sum of money received by the the 6 employees.

(2) Each of the 2 owners received 2 times as much as each of their 6 employees.

Statements 1 and 2 do not contradict each other as per the given information but the math in the two statements does contradict.

60k is to be divided among the 2 owners and 6 employees.
60k = O1 + O2 + E1 + E2 + E3 + E4 + E5 + E6

(1) The sum of money received by the 2 owners was equal to the sum of money received by the the 6 employees.

This tells us
O1 + O2 = E1 + E2 + E3 + E4 + E5 + E6
It doesn't say that the owners got equal amounts and the employees got equal amounts etc. Just that the sum fo what owners got is equal to the sum of what employees got. So the amount was equally distributed among the owners and employees.
So O1 + O2 = 30k
E1 + E2 + E3 + E4 + E5 + E6 = 30k

(2) Each of the 2 owners received 2 times as much as each of their 6 employees.
This tells us that the owners got equal amounts and the employees got equal amounts. Also, that each owner got twice of what each employee got.

O = 2E

60,000 = 2E + 2E + E + E + E + E + E + E
E = 6000
O = 12000

We see that the two owners together get only 24k while statement 1 gives us that they get 30k. Hence, there is trouble in this question. It may not be GMAT specific.
