How did you assume that L and N are vertically opposite?? it can be L and M also vertically opposite....isn't it??

The quadrilateral is named as LMNP, so only L and N can be opposite angles.

This can't be correct. The quadrilateral is a Trapezium and not a Parallelogram.
Therefore, the adjacent angles won't sum up to 180.

Also you have typed Angle "l"
this seems to be incorrect notation for "L" which you correctly notate in the brackets.

Statement 2 is sufficient.


We do not know whether NP is parallel to ML. Nothing is mentioned in the stem regarding these two lines.
BUT, ML is the transverse line cutting the parallel lines MN and LP (as mentioned in the q stem). Therefore, M and L are supplementary angles.

Hence, M+L=180
>> M+140=180
>>M =40
