A large rectangle is divided into smaller rectangles of the same size and shape. What is the perimeter of the large rectangle?

(1) The perimeter of each of the smaller rectangles is 300 cm
(2) The area of the large rectangle is 60,000 cm^2



A large rectangle can be divided into 12 small rectangles of the same size. What is the perimeter of the large rectangle?

1) Small rectangular perimeter is 300
2) large rectangular area of 60,000

Answer is E

1. 2(l*b)=300 ==> no info on length and breadth of larger rectangle.
2. L*B=60000 , L and B can be any value such as 200, 300 or 20, 3000.

Combined insuff ==> No info on the number of smaller rectangles and the length and breadth


I agree that the correct answer is E. However, the 1st statement mentioned the Perimeter of the small rectangular, not the area.
Therefore, it is not 2*(Length*breadth) but 2*(Length + breadth).
Because we know that the 2 small rectangles have the same size, it could also be written 2*(Length + (Breadth of larger triangle)/2) = 2*Length + Breadth.

Baps, you're right that the 1st statement mentions the perimeter and not the area but there is 1 error (see highlighted) in your answer. The question does not tell us the number of small rectangles. I agree that this does not have an impact on our answer but in another situation/question, it just might! :)
