If positive integer k is a multiple of 5, what is the remainder when k is divided by 6?

(1) When k is divided by 4, the remainder is 3.
(2) When k is divided by 12, the remainder is 3.
One way to think algebraically,

Let k = 5x, then we are asked to find,

5x = 6p + r
Value of r?

Statement 1 => 5x = 4z + 3

6p + r = 4z + 3
r = 4z - 6p + 3

If we try with different (z,p) values like (2,1) or (6,4) we get r = 5 or 3. So this statement is not sufficient.

Statement 2 => 5x = 12q + 3

6p + r = 12q + 3
r = 6*(2q - p) + 3

As r should be less than 6, first term should always be 0 or in other terms it's already divisible by 6, which gives us r = 3 for all cases. Hence, this statement is sufficient.
