Scott grew 100 plants from black and white seeds. Only one plant grows from one seed. She may get red or blue flowers from the black seed. She may get red or white flowers from the white seeds. How many black seeds does she have?

(1) The number of plants with white flowers = 10.
(2) The number of plants with red flowers = 70.

B yields Red or Blue flowers => B = BR + BB
W yields Red or White flowers => W = WR + WW

BR + BB + WR + WW = 100 (flowers)

Statement 1: 
WW = 10
We don't know WR to subtract from 100 to find the number of black seeds

BR + WR = 70
Since both seeds yield Red, we will not be able to find the exact distribution of seeds using that

BR + BB + WR + WW = 100
70 + 10 + BB = 100

The reasoning goes: Bl (Black Seeds) + Wh (White Seeds) = 100 (Plants)
Bl = Red or Blue (Flowers), Wh = Red or White (Flowes)

(1) The number of plants with white flowers = 10.

This gives us Bl>= 10.
As there could be several Black seeds which may have produces Red flowers, hence we cannot determine the actual number of black seeds that might have been there.
 Hence insufficient

(2) The number of plants with red flowers = 70 
As the red flowers could have been produced by both black and white seeds, hence we cannot ascertain the number of black seeds.
Hence insufficient
Combine (1) ad (2)

This gives us the total number of white and red flowers. 
Again out of the red flowers, we can't ascertain how many have been produced by black seeds.

Hence insufficient

Statement 1 => White flowers = 10

Min white seed = 10

We don't know how may red flowers came from white seeds and how many black flowers came from remaining 90 seeds, so we don't know how many black seeds did Scott grew, hence insufficient.

Statement 2 => Red flowers = 70

We don't know no. of black flowers and also how many of these red flowers grew from black seeds, hence insufficient.

Combining both,

White flowers = 10 
 Red flowers = 70 
 Black flowers = 20

Min black seeds = 20 and min. white seeds = 10 b ut as we don't know how many of these red flowers grew from black seeds or white seeds, both combined are also insufficient.
