Total amount collected from an officer for a charity cause was $250. If each employee contributed either $20 or $25, how many employees contributed $20?

(1) The number of employees in the office is 11.
(2) The number of employees who gave $25 was 1 more than the number of employees who gave $20.

Total amount collected for charity cause is $ 250.

If the amount denominations are in $20 and $25 respectively.

we need to find : How many of them contributed $20. ?

lets analyse individual statements.

STATEMENT 1:

(1) The number of employees in the office is 11.

Let x be the number of people who contributed $20, then the ppl who contributed $ 25 is 11-x.

20 x + 25 * (11-x) = 250

solving it, we get x = 5.

# $20 = 5 and # $25 = 6. SUFFICIENT

STATEMENT 2:

(2) The number of employees who gave $25 was 1 more than the number of employees who gave $20.

Let x be the number of people who contributed $20,

Then, the number of ppl who contributed $25 is x+1

20 x + 25 * (x+1) =250

solving we get x =5

# $20 = 5 and # $25 = 6. SUFFICIENT

Total amount contributed = 250 dollar
No. of persons contributed 20 dollar = x
No. of persons contributed 25 dollar = y

Statement 1
Total no of persons =11
20x+25y=250
x+y=11
solving x=5, y=6
statement 1 is sufficeint

Statement 2
y=x+1
20x+25y=250
solving we get x=5,y=6

Statement 2 is sufficient.

Both 1 & 2 are sufficient.

Answer is D.
