If Sam is twice as old as Ryan, by how many years is Ryan older than Tina?

(1) Four years ago, Sam was twice as old as Tina is now.

(2) After four years, Sam will be twice as old as Tina.
S = 2R; R-T = ?;

1. (S-4) = 2T; (2R-4) = 2T; R-2=T; R-T=2; SUFFICIENT

2. (S+4) = 2(T+4); (2R+4) = 2(T+4); R+2 = T+4; R-T=2; SUFFICIENT

Assume that the current age of Sam, Ryan and Tina is S, R, and T respectively

Given: S = 2R

Question: R - T = ?

Statement 1

(1) Four years ago, Sam was twice as old as Tina is now

S - 4 = 2T

S = 2T + 4

2T + 4 = 2R

R - T = 2

The statement alone is sufficient to answer the question.

Statement 2

(2) After four years, Sam will be twice as old as Tina.

S + 4 = 2 (T + 4)

S = 2T + 4

2T + 4 = 2R

R - T = 2

The statement alone is sufficient to answer the question.
