Let the number of apples, oranges and grapes be a, Or, and g respectively.
a + Or+ g = 1750
To find out the value of a, we need the values of both Or and g.
Statement 1:
(1) The number of apples sold was four times the number of oranges sold.
a = 4 Or.
we get 5 Or + g = 1750.
Oranges and grapes can assume multiple possibilities of values (350,0);(349,5) etc.
Hence, insufficient Statement 2:
(2) The number of grapefruit sold was twice the number of oranges sold.
a + 3 Or = 1750
Both apples and Oranges can take multiple possible values.
Hence, insufficient
Combine both statements , we get
a + (a/4) + (a/2) = 1750
4a + a + 2a = 1750*4
7a = 7000
a =1000
Or = (a/4) = (1000/4) = 250
g = (a/2) = (1000/2) = 500
