Hi, I'm a junior in college working towards a bachelor's degree in music. I have finally come to realize that music is not something that I want to do for the rest of my life, not to mention it's not going to pay my bills! I recently gained interest in accounting and thought about double-majoring, except my school doesn't offer a bachelor's degree in accounting.

So I'm thinking about obtaining a master's degree, except I heard that a master's in accounting WITHOUT a bachelor's (or any business-related major for that matter) is not going to land me any legitimate job especially when I don't have any related work experience. Is this true? I don't aspire to getting into Big 4 or anything, I just hope to start off with a salary around 40-50k and eventually hit 70~-80k in the span of 5-6 years. I don't even expect/need to make 6 figures. My ultimate goal is to get into governmental accounting (whether it be state or federal). So the bottomline is this:
1) Does it really lead to no job/dead-end career if I get a master's in accounting without a bachelor's in accounting, especially when my major had nothing to do with accounting/business/economics and I have no related work experience whatsoever? Will my salary never get past 50k in my lifetime without a bachelor's in accounting & CPA license?
2) If this is somewhat a feasible plan, then do I HAVE to get my master's from a highly ranked accounting school for a career that's not going to be dead-end? I'm worried that if I go to a not-so-renowned school, I will not get a job/I will end up with a low salary for the rest of my life since I would be the ultimate combination of no bachelor's in accounting + no work experience + master's degree for a not-so-great school. Right now I'm looking at USC and UC Davis which look pretty promising, except I don't think I'll get accepted to either of them due to my major being completely unrelated to accounting and my GPA not being so stellar.

3) Is CPA necessary to get into governmental accounting?
Thanks!!
