abruhh
Hi everyone! I'm thinking about applying to M7 deferred programs but would like to get a second opinion my profile's strengths and weaknesses. I feel that I'm unsure of next steps, so I thank you for your time and help!
Demographics:
21M, White/Caucasian Male, Low-Income College Student
Education:- (Ongoing) BSBA in Finance (4.0 GPA), from a state school with a T15 undergraduate business program, minoring in engineering sciences and business analytics
- In a selective engineering and business honors program where we take MBA-style courses (course materials derived partly from HBS and MIT professors)
Test Scores:
GMAT: 665 FE - 84Q/83V/82DI (This is definitely the point I'm most concerned about. I think I can improve, but I'm spread thin in terms of time)
Work Experience:- Top Investment Bank (GS/MS/JPM): Interned for 3 months in one of the top groups, working on sell-side M&A, follow-on offerings, and advisory deals greater than $1 billion
- Mid-Sized Tech Investment Bank: Interned solely on sell-side tech M&A and capital raising deals within the digital media, commerce tech, and electric vehicle sectors
- Lower Middle Market Investment Bank: Common banking theme here lol, interned on both on buy-side and sell-side M&A deals within the tech, landscaping, and transportation sectors
- Large Hospital System: Interned to create financial models and visualizations for potential M&A targets and the health system's startup health plan division
- Undergraduate Researcher: Worked for the college of engineering to conduct surveys, focus groups, and data analysis to improve first year engineering coursework
Extracurriculars:- Co-coordinator of a faculty-selected investment banking program (teaching a class, chaperoning trips to cities, maintaining corporate relationships, etc.)
- Finalist for a startup competition where we pitched for $50,000, was CEO of a healthcare SaaS startup to improve medical risk coding using a suite of analytics, communications, and LLM products
- VP of finance club
- VP of engineering program
- Volunteer for local food pantry, as well as agricultural volunteer
Post-MBA Goal:
Entrepreneurship -- still refining exactly what I want to do, but hopefully in the intersection of finance, tech, healthcare
Dream Schools:
Sloan is my top, but no real preference afterwards
Thank you again! Hi
abruhh , I hope you are doing well.
This profile showcases a well-rounded candidate with a good academic record, including a 4.0 GPA in a T15 UG business program, alongside valuable internship experiences at top firms like Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, and a mid-sized tech investment bank. Your leadership roles, particularly in the investment banking program and as CEO of a healthcare SaaS startup, demonstrate initiative and entrepreneurial drive. However, your GMAT score of 665 is decent but slightly in line with the typical range for M7 deferred programs, where scores often average between 700-740. However, according to your profile, I am sure you have stories that will help you compensate for your GMAT score. If you have time to retake, you can definitely retake, else focus on your application. Refining your post-MBA goal in entrepreneurship and further connecting it to your current experience will also make your profile even more compelling. With some adjustments in these areas, your profile would be a strong contender for deferred MBA programs at top schools like Sloan. We have helped a deferred MBA applicant to get admit to Wharton and Columbia.
You may read his success story here. We would like to know more about your profile, as the information you shared is brief, and getting to know in detail will help us identify if you can pull out good stories from your experience.
If you’d like,
we are happy to discuss more about your work experience, leadership skills, impact created, challenges faced, awards&achievements and extracurriculars to assess your chances to top B-schools and strengthen your application with impactful stories. Cheers!
