Hi there! This is Kate, I'm jumping in for Jen since she just went on leave.

That's a tough question to answer as I don't believe schools really have a preference for any one field over another. Many applicants do apply from common fields like consulting and investment banking and in some ways those fields can be even tougher because you have to stand out within a big pool! I would be thinking about this from two different angles...

1) Put it in the perspective of your long-term career goal (if you know!) and think about what skills and experiences you need to have to be successful in that field. If your long-term goal is consulting, for example, then finding a position now where you can build up your analytical chops or client service skills might be a good fit.

2) Focus on the quality of the role and the opportunity you will have to develop professionally. Yes, it's possible that having big well-known firms on your resume can help but I think quality is much more important. I think schools will value leadership, teamwork, communication, and analysis - so look for jobs that have opportunity to stretch your skills in those areas.

Hope this helps and good luck to you!
