Q.2 n=p^2*q
n is a multiple of 5 ---> at least p or q must be 5 as they are prime numbers.
p^2 : in case q is 5, the first choice is not correct.
q^2 : in case p=5, the second choice is not correct.
pq : they are a mutiple of 5 but insuff to be a multiple of 25
p^3q : in case q= 5, this choice is not correct

p^2*q^2 , at least one is 5, the square of this one guarantee that p^2*q^2 is a multiple of 25.

Okay for question 1, we can arrange Statements 1 and 2 into the following equations.

x = Number of Managers, a = Avg salary of manager
y = Number of Directors, b = Avg salary of Director

a + 5k = ( ax + by ) / ( x+ y )
b + 15k = ( ax + by ) / (x + y)

equating those two equations we get:
a + 5k = b - 15k
or
b = a + 20 k

Substituting this into equation 1 we get:
y / ( y + x ) = 1 / 4

Therefore we know the ratio of Directors to the total is:
1 to 4...or 25%.

Therefore the answer is C.

Can anyone confirm this?

1. Adding to PeeBee's solution:
Subst in eqn 1, I got x = 3y. We also know x + y = 100%. So y is 25%

Thanks PeeBee.

2. Picking numbers would help here. Pick p as 2 and q as 5 and vice versa. All choices except D would be eliminated.

3. I got 40% (approx) by picking numbers. But I like gsr's approach. Cool one.
