All possible outcomes for 6 full places are 13C6=1986. Favorable outcomes, when Jeff is in the middle and the adjacent places are empty are 12.Then guess it is 12/1986 or 2/331.

Sorry im not thinking straight (just woke up)

jeff is in the middle, 13 spaces around him.

chance that the car next to him is missing is 7/13. Provided that it is missing the chance that the car to the other side of him is also gone is 6/13.

so 42/169?

EDIT: Sorry the second one should be 6/12 of course. so 7/13 * 6/12
42/156 = 21/78 ?

The OA for this, is 0.318. I don't have an explanation, just the answer...

I get 0.318, here's how:

Pick the first spot on either side, 12 to choose from, 2 good ones, so probability = 2/12

Now pick the other spot, 11 to choose from, 1 good one, so probability = 1/11

So now we have 2/12*1/11, now all we need is total number of ways to choose 2 from 7. 7C2 = 7*6/2 = 21

So p = 2/12*1/11*21 = 0.318
