The answer is independent of the fact that this is a scaene triangle (or a triangle for that matter. Since area is square of length, the ratio of the two areas would be of the form

(1.1)^2
===== = 1.21
1^2

Hence the result.


can u plz explain ur statement "since area is square of length" ? Thx

Using dimension analysis, while length is length (which is a basic unit), area is length squared.

That's why whether it is area of a triangle, or a square or a pentagon, the dimensions of area are length squared.

That's why the increase of 10% (say from 1 to 1.1) in length produces a change of (1.1)^2 = 1.21 times in area and (1.1)^3 = 1.331 times in volume.

Thus area increase is 21% and volume increase is 33.1%.

- let us take a right angled triangle which is scalene. Right angled because it simplifies visualization.

let the perpendicular be p, base be b and hypoteneous h

stem gives us: p <> b <> h

Area, A = 1/2 * p * b

Let the sides be increased by 10%. Therefore, the new dimensions are:

Perpendicular: 1.1p, base: 1.1b, hypoteneous: 1.1h

New Area: 1/2 * (1.1p) * (1.1b) = 1.21 * A

Hence an increase of 21%

Explanations please!!!
pick the number for any scalane triangle. suppose a right scalane triangle.

hight = 10
base = 20
area= 100

after the change:
hight = 11
base = 22
area= 121

% change in area of the scalane triangle = (121-100)/100 = 21%
