I'm not sure but "...is defined as the number of pairs of consecutive terms of sequence..."

It talks about consecutive terms, so you must treat each number independently.

That is the reason why C is the answer!!!!

We're dealing with consecutive pairs. So the sequence can be broken up like this:

{1,-3} {-3,2} {2,5} {5,-4} {-4,-6}

These are all of the consecutive pairs in the set. Now we just have to count how many pairs how 2 different signs involved because we're looking for pairs where the product is negative. Two positives or two negatives multiply out to be positive, so we need pairs that have one of each sign.

{1,-3} {-3,2} {5,-4} are the only ones. We have 3 pairs that fit.

Answer C
