Hi guys,
I am beginning to write my essays for Round 2 and wanted to get your input on the length of the essays. Duke has 2 short essay questions and the instructions on the website are as follows:
For the short answer questions, please restrict your response to a single page each.
1) Please discuss your career path, your short and long-term goals.
2) Why are you interested in The Duke MBA program and how will it help you achieve your goals? If you are interested in the Health Sector Management concentration or a joint degree program, please address in this essay.
Since the only restriction here is that the essays need to be one page, does this mean that there is no limit on the number of words? I have written my initial drafts and they are between 500-700 words each. Also, there is no way I can try to put all that information and double space my essays.
Has anyone completed their short essays and what was your length, font, spacing etc? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Usually 1 page with double spacing means 300-350 words. But even I went overboard with it. I tried to squeeze into 300 words but it was not what I wanted to say hence I stuck to around 400-450 words.
I used the font size 10 and tweaked a little with the margins. But again I did this only for Short essay 1, for short essay 2 I used the font size 11 but no changes to the margins.
IMO you can tweak the margins, but the content should be important (soemthing that is absolutely necessary). Also double spacing is mandatory. They have clearly specified that hence do not try to bypass it.

Thanks for your feedback. Unfortunately, Duke doesn't explicitly state that their essays need to be double-spaced. All it says is that the short essay should be no more than 1 page.
