50 Best Business schools for getting hired

Question

I just found this on the CNN/Fortune website. Not sure how recent it is.

Pretty interesting to see the elite schools dominating the top 10 for employment. There are a decent amount of other schools that are surprises. I'm surprised Michigan State didn't make the list. Their employment rate is pretty high.

Interesting list. It's not too surprising that the top ranked schools in the biggest metro areas seem to do the best.

I think the biggest surprise was that UNC was not among the top 50. I think that generally, it's considered just behind the elites in the 15-20 range. Even NC State made the top 50, but UNC didn't. Shocker.

Did anyone notice that Columbia's average bonus was $61k+, compared with $20-30k for most other top schools? The joys of working in NY I guess.

Did anyone notice that "recruiter rating" score. HBS and Wharton are around 100 and then there's a HUGE drop-off. Not sure what to make of that.

I like this list vs the other more popular ones. I think to decide on a school, we need to use the information provided by sources like BW, FT, Economist etc and create out own list based on the attributes that matter to us the most. For me 'recuiter rating' I think is the most important attribute vs things like closer to a big town/city.

The fact that a school was No 1 in BW or FT doesnt really mean anything for me.

I got a good laugh at North Carolina State. They have like 10 full time students. I wondered how they ended up on the list. They must be counting the part timers. That's really not fair since they already have jobs.

How does Maryland receive a recruiter ranking score of 0? Is that even possible? Yet they still are ranked 35th?

Eh, I still think the BW system is the most accurate.

None of the full-time salaries seemed to correlate with what the schools had reported (at least for the schools I applied to and researched). Seemed to be a list they did a quick poll for and then just threw together with some salary stats from who knows where? Maybe they were including PT students as well which would drag down some schools most likely.

They aren't including part-time students.

It is interesting this falls in line with the clusters:
One through seven are the ultra elites and the elites are represent 9 of the next 10 schools.

I just noticed this footnote

 "Note: Kenan-Flagler Business School, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, was incorrectly listed in the 2006 QS recruiter survey and thus does not appear in this year's rankings. The school will be included in next year's survey. We regret the error."

No, Hjort. Not interesting, but expected. For me, your clusters have been the easiest way to guage overall rankings.

It was a mistake. CNN has since recognized the errors in survey/rankings and has removed the article from it's site. They said the two schools most larely influenced by the errors were UNC and Boston U. They had a independent company conduct and produce the rankings. Oh well, it was interesting while it was around.

Yes... UNC sent out an email today. Both UNC and BU were omitted from the list. The salaries looked fishy too and inconsistent with other reports. I am not suprized it was flawed.

Someone was probrably fired for that mistake. CNN probrably paid a decent amount of money to publish junk data.
