Solution

Given:
• Machine 1 makes 240 copies in 8 minutes
• Machine 2 makes 240 copies in 5 minutes
• Both machines work at their respective constant rate

To find:
• How many more copies does machine 2 make in 4 minutes than machine 1 makes in 6 minutes

Approach and Working:
• Machine 1 makes 240 copies in 8 minutes
o Hence, in 1 minute, machine 1 makes $$\frac{240}{8}$$ = 30 copies
o In 6 minutes, machine 1 makes 30 * 6 = 180 copies
• Machine 2 makes 240 copies in 5 minutes
o Hence, in 1 minute, machine 2 makes $$\frac{240}{5}$$ = 48 copies
o In 4 minutes, machine 1 makes 48 * 4 = 192 copies

• Therefore, the number of extra copies made by machine 2 = 192 – 180 = 12

Hence, the correct answer is option B.

machine II= 4/5=0,8*240= 192 copies
machine I = 6/8=0,75*240=180 copies

192-180= 12
