It's a fact of life: Top business schools can't accept everyone. And here's another fact of life: A rejection doesn't mean the end of the world. It may feel like it at first, but give it time—soon you may even be able to see the silver lining in your rejection and maybe even—gasp!—realize that it was for the best.
Here are some thoughts on how you can transform your business school rejection into a success:
- Your rejection from School A (which was initially your top choice), could encourage you to accept an offer from School B (which was initially your second or third or fourth choice). Give School B a chance—the world works in mysterious ways and perhaps School B is really the best place for you.
- If you decide to reapply to business school next year, you'll get an entire extra year to build up your MBA profile. Not only will you reapply next year as a stronger candidate, but you will have gained richer understanding of the business world that will no doubt enhance your MBA educational experience.
- The feedback you get from others and the self assessment that you'll inevitably do after getting rejected should encourage you to work on the weak aspects of your profile—this is beneficial to you, regardless of whether or not you reapply next year.
