So, how sure are you?

With at least one career goals questions popping up in pretty much every bschool application, the ever present "why MBA, why now?" question offered at just about every interview, and the fact that summer internship applications are due within the first couple months of starting school, how many of you out there really know what you want to do post MBA?

At this point I am open to whatever.
Job market and economy is in downfall, and I am going to do more research once the classes start.

I originally wanted to do something at a tech related industry but I am mentally preparing myself for other opportunities - such as finance, consumer products, marketing, etc.

I am very sure about healthcare but would be irresponsible not to be open-minded about other opportunities.

I'm committed to international development as a career, though I would consider non-profit work for the right kind of organization. I'm not completely opposed to work in a for-profit firm, but it would have to be one with the right kind of ends in mind. I'm deeply opposed to the banking/MC track.

Perhaps I'm exposing my ignorance by asking, but roughly what do you mean by "something" in health care? Do you mean going into an HMO, or hospital administration? Medical technology? Any of the above?

I'm interested in drug development, initially at a large established biotech then at start-ups.

The insurance/hospital side of the industry bores me to tears.

Drug development with a MBA degree? (rather than PHD in chemistry or etc?)
Like buying tons of Sudafed to extract pseudoephedrine's to produce the illegal and highly addictive stimulant methamphetamine, also known as crystal meth?

Or do you mean - market/business development for new drugs in trial/testing?

It could be market/corporate/business development in support of investigational drugs, but preferably strategy/general management at a company doing drug development. These are things I do now (all of them) and the MBA is just a stepping stone. With some illicit home brewing on the side, of course. :lol:

My going-in thought is strategy/GM for pharma or biotech, or MC focused on the industry, but lately have also been learning more about marketing/brand management. Basically I know I'm interested in the industry, but am not sure what exactly I want to do.

And ninkorn, I'd go easy on buying the pseudoephedrine products. Big Brother is watching..

the job itself does not matter to me at all what matters the most are: 1. office with a nice interior design and big windows with a view towards either pine forest, beach, park...

2. co-workers attitude and personalities 3. $$$ i want to feel inspired and happy at work industry itself is not that important at all
