I have to write these rules for the new guys...hope its not too annoying.
Rules
1. Time yourself
2. Solve on a seperate sheet of paper.
3. Write down your solution here, and the time taken.
The point C divides line segment AB such that AC=3*CB. If point A(3,2)
B(6,4). Find the cordinates of point C.
A) (3/2, 1)
B) (3┬╛, 2┬╜)
C) (9/2, 3)
D) (21/4, 7/2)
E) (15/4, 5/2)
D is correct.
let me avoid the formula approach.
Draw a straight line on your sheet and follow this explanation, will ya
Let AB be divided into 4 parts AP, PQ, QC and CB such that AC = 3 * CB
Then AQ = QB So, Q = ((3 + 6)/2, (2+4)/2) = (4.5, 3)
C will be the mid point of Q and B
i.e ((4.5 + 6)/2, (3+4)/2) = (5.25, 3.5) = (21/4, 7/2)
thats D.
