Solution

Given:
• A base of a triangle has a length b
• The altitude corresponding to the base has length h
• b = 2h

To find:
• Area of the triangle, expressed in terms of h

Approach and Working:
We know the area of a triangle = ½ * base * height
• Therefore, area of this triangle = ½ * b * h = ½ * 2h * h = $$h^2$$

Hence, the correct answer is option C.

$$Area \ of \ a \ Triangle = \frac{1}{2}*Base*Height$$

Or, $$Area \ of \ a \ Triangle = \frac{1}{2}*2h*h$$

Or, $$Area \ of \ a \ Triangle = \frac{1}{2}*2h^2$$

Or, $$Area \ of \ a \ Triangle = h^2$$ ; Answer must be (C)

The area of the triangle is (h x b)/2 = (h x 2h)/2 = 2h^2/2 = h^2.
