From the information, we can create table as follows:
Gold Angel Total
Male ? n/a 75
Female n/a n/a 25
Total 60 40 100

From 1) There are 40 angelfish in that aquarium.
So, we know that the total fish in the aquarium is 100 (60 gold + 40 angel), then we derived that there is 25 female fish (100 - 75 male fish).
However, we do not know how much goldfish and angelfish by sex. Therefore, we can not find the number of gold male fish.

From (2) There are 25 female fish in that aquarium. - This give the same information that we derived from 1. Therefore, not sufficient.

Statement 1 and 2 together, still not sufficient. Therefore, the correct answer is E.

We know from the question stem that there are 75 male fish in the aquarium made up of either goldfish or angelfish. This means we have all 75 male fish being either goldfish or 75 male fish being angelfish. Let Am be number of male angelfish, Gm be number of male goldfish,
In addition, we know that there are 60 goldfish which are either male or female. So either all 60 are male goldfish or 60 are female goldfish.

We are to determine the number of male goldfish in the aquarium.

From statement 1, we know that there are 40 angelfish in the aquarium. This statement is sufficient to enable us to determine the number of male goldfish. This is because we can definitely conclude that the number of male goldfish in the aquarium is 75 since it is possible for the total number of male angelfish to be 75, in line with the information provided in the question stem.

From statement 2, we know that the total female fish in the aquarium is 25. This means that we can again conclude that there are a total of 60 male goldfish in the aquarium, in line with the information provided in the question stem. Statement 2 is therefore sufficient.

The answer is D in my opinion.

Selected C.
Going by variable approach method,
4 variables in the original question stem and need 4 variables to solve that.
Condition 1 and 2 give you 2 equations and then we have 2 possible equations in the question stem.

Let number of Goldfish = G and number of Angelfish = A.

Together 1) and 2)

No new information is available. From 35 ≤ x ≤ 60, x can have 36 different values.

INSUFFICIENT.

Answer (E).

from both statements we get
-----GF----AF---Total
Male-- ----- --- 75
Female -- --- --- 25
total --- 60 --40 ---100
both stmnts are not sufficient together since GF M can be 60 max or 35 min two values
IMO E
